TELEPHONE

To call from a public telephone, buy a phone card in a bar tabac, newsagent or post office.

To phone Britain dial 0044 then the number omitting the 0 in the area code e.g. 0044 1425 672867.  When calling France from France the number will begin with 02.

To call Britain from France using a mobile phone dial +44 followed by the number omitting the 0 in the area code e.g. +44 1425 672867.  The exception to this is if your network uses the ‘roaming’ sytem, in which case you call as if you are in the UK.  The signal can be temperamental from Ty Gwyn and your mobile may register with a different telephone company depending where you stand in the garden.  Reception and transmission does seem to be improving and we find that we can now send and receive texts in the house, rather than walking around the garden for a signal.

RE-CYCLING AND RUBBISH DISPOSAL

The pedal bin liner and any other non-re-cyclable refuse should be taken to the ‘poubelle’ that is shared with other houses in the neighbourhood.  At the bottom of our drive turn right, walk a few paces and the poubelle (large bin on wheels with lid) is on the opposite side of the road.

For re-cycling (glass & plastic bottles, cans, paper & magazines etc.) - go down rue de l’étoile towards the centre of the village and you will find the re-cycling centre in a pull-in on your right.  France encourages re-cycling of most things and you are likely to pass re-cycling sites on your journeys.

POST

This is delivered to the letter box at the bottom of the drive.  The key is identified by the dog bone.  If you are checking for mail, please collect any publicity and mail addresses to us and leave it in the house.  You might find the special offers of interest and it certainly improves the vocabulary!  If you do happen across personal correspondence or a bill for us (unlikely), perhaps you could bring it back with you.  Please leave the letterbox key in the cutlery drawer.

There is a postbox in the centre of the village for outgoing mail and one near the junction with rue de l’arboretum at the top of rue de l’étoile.

ANY PROBLEMS

For anything we may be able to help with, send us a text or telephone - mobile and landline numbers are on the front sheet of this booklet.

You could ask the neighbours, who are all very pleasant and very approachable.  There are a number of British families resident in the village - Shirley and Anthony run the Chambre d’Hôte in the village (easy to find near the centre of the village).  Fiona and Kevin have moved into their new house on the road that leads in the direction of Camors from the centre of the village (rue de mésanges).

You may meet a Dutch couple, Arlaine and Norbert  who have a poterie in the rue de Fionnec (they produce fabulous work if you are seeking a special souvenir to take home).

For problems with water - if you need to turn off at the mains, there is a stop-tap at the water meter.  This is under a circular concrete lid near the telegraph pole at the bottom of the drive.

For problems with electricity - the main switch is on the wall inside the main garage door.

For problems with health - the nearest pharmacies are in Pluvigner and Baud.  There are doctors in Camors, Baud and situated close to the church in Pluvigner.
