Ty Mawr is a spacious home set in attractive mature gardens on the outskirts of the historic fortified town of Pontivy. With beamed ceilings and imposing fireplaces, the house is full of character, as well as being practical and central for exploring Brittany. The Nantes/Brest Canal and the River Blavet are close by (1 to 2 kms) giving opportunities for fishing, kayaking, cycling and walking. Amongst other local attractions, there is horse riding just one kilometre away. Golfers have a challenging little course waiting for them at Bieuzy (10 kms) and watersports enthusiasts have the freshwater lake with its sandy beaches and activity centre at the Lac de Guerledan (20 kms). Both North and South coasts are within easy reach and the inland sea of the beautiful Gulf of Morbihan dotted with attractive islands and ports has to be experienced. This is a large property accommodating eleven. It has six bedrooms (one double with adjacent shower room/w.c. downstairs), two more bathrooms with w.c. upstairs and a separate downstairs cloakroom w.c., large dining room, plus kitchen diner and back kitchen, large sitting room and separate library / TV room. The sitting room will seat eleven very comfortably with it’s plentiful soft furnishings. There is a glass fronted inset woodburner in the sitting room and a traditional Godin woodburning stove in the dining room. There is a digital receiver for the range of free French channels, plus a satellite dish picking up a range of international stations (two or three in the English Language). A DVD player and video player are linked to the television. In the dining room, the seven foot oak refectory table can be increased to eleven or thirteen foot with addition of the second dining table. Fourteen matching oak dining chairs provide comfortable seating for diner parties. The kitchen has a multi-function microwave cooker, gas hob and dishwasher. There is a freezer, fridge and full-size gas cooker in the back kitchen. The house is set in over an acre of garden, with areas of lawn, mature trees and a small pond. The open fronted garage has become a playroom with table tennis table. Garden furniture, including parasol, a gazebo and a barbecue is available throughout the season. The hamlet is in a conservation area with ready access to countryside just one mile to the West of the town. Pontivy has a range of leisure activities, including an open-air swimming pool and a covered pool. The town is steeped in history and there is a good range of restaurants, bars and shops, as well as many cultural events throughout the year within the town and nearby. This is an ideal location for exploring Brittany. Guests should supply towels, beach towels and tea towels. Bed linen is provided , together with quilts and pillows.
